Popular with the young people

Thanks to the Internet, there are more bands and musicians on the radar than ever before. In fact, it can be so daunting a task to keep up, that the historical aspect of music probably gets lost more than it should.

I just mentioned The Kinks (you know, Ray Davies) to one of our 25 year old developers.

You know, The Kinks…

Okay, they’re more famous for Lola, Tired of Waiting, Come Dancing (um… well, they are famous for it). But “A Well Respected Man” is one of my favorites.

Anyway, he said he doesn’t know who The Kinks are. One of the reasons he is here working with NewTunes is because he is a music fanatic. He’s very knowledgeable, and a fan, of what’s going in music today. Stress TODAY.

And our site, NewTunes, was initially built under the premise that by searching known songs and bands, one can unearth independent and unsigned artists. We are trying to design it to provide a big advantage to hardcore music fans, like ourselves, who are seeking that unknown gem… finding that new band that no one else has heard, yet.

But our conversation makes me think that we’re really even more about association of songs and expansion of music knowledge within a community of music lovers. Our intent is to provide three categories of search results, Popular, Independent and Unsigned artists. So, it might be just as useful that someone like him enters a current band that he enjoys and, by doing so, discovers The Kinks.

Our work here is so much more fun than work, because it clearly has so much potential within a subject that we love. I really hope you join us for the ride.
