More than a year ago, it was announced that one of the greatest movies of our time (top 7 of the 90s, according to Martin Scorsese) was going to get the Criterion Collection treatment.
In fact, Wes Anderson even said that he’d be working on it after Darjeeling Limited came out. Then… nothing. No word.
So, I did a little hunting today, and it appears that the release will be Blu-Ray, and out in October.
Aside from loving the original, people have been looking forward to this for all the extras – including the short film upon which this version was based. If the Criterion version of other Wes Anderson films – especially Royal Tennenbaums – is any indication, this set will be excellent.
The film also features another great soundtrack by ex-Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh (the indie film’s Danny Elfman).
Here’s the original 13 minute film, and here’s hoping for a timely October release…
