I have to admit, I’ve never watched American Idol – ever. Not even a second of it. The entire premise of the show is just not at all interesting to me. And I’m continually surprised by the sheer number of people who I never would have thought watched it that do… friends of mine who just don’t seem to fit the demographic (or psychographic or whatever).
So, someone just sent me the news (which is a few days old, now) about Kara DioGuardi being added to the judges panel. According to the article, she’s supposed to add some credibility and “hipness” to the show. But, that’s not what makes the show so uninteresting to me.
It’s that fifty-notes-to-sing-one-word style of crooning that I’m just not a fan of. Plus, I think I’m a much bigger fan of instrumentalists than vocalists.
Do you watch American Idol, and am I truly missing anything?

One word: No.
I’m not at all of that demographic or psychographic, and I watch it. And I hate myself in the morning, every time.
Truth be told, I did completely resist it until, I think, Season 4, or maybe 5 (hard to say exactly, they’re all pretty much the same). Then I made the mistake of getting caught up in the early-season auditions (which, contrived as they can be, are very entertaining) and got hooked.
If they try to make that show credible and/or hip, it will totally ruin it.
