While I was in San Francisco, I found myself watching a short making-of type feature about the recent Bollywood blockbuster, Drona. Drona is apparently an Indiana Jones like character who adventures his way around India.
What struck me (along with, apparently, the judges of the Miss World 2000 competition) was the video of Priyanka Chopra, who looks something like this:
(No, that’s not Sarah Palin, that’s Ms. Chopra.)
There’s a pop, Britney Spears-type song and video for the song “Oop Cha,” which has attached itself to this film in a way I’m not totally clear on. Performing in the video, with both singing and dancing, is Priyanka Chopra. This led me to believe that the song was actually performed, if not also written, by Chopra.
While I don’t normally go for this type of music, I have been known to have a weakness for some of it (see the Kylie Minogue song I’ve written about here before (because of the fantastic video)…)
The song “Oop Cha” is another song that captured my attention. It seemed to infuse a bit of Indian/Middle Eastern sound to an otherwise normal dance track. The presence of Priyanka Chopra in the video probably helped as well. Did I mention she was Miss World in 2000?
However, in my attempts to find the proper video, I learned that Chopra neither sang nor had any involvement in the presentation of the song. She was just in the video.
It turns out that the song was essentially ghost-written and sung by Sunidhi Chauhan…
Not sure why the video was presented the way it was. It seems Chopra is mainly a model and an actress… not a singer. Either way, I found the song to be a solid one… for a dance/pop song…
