flying south and flying north

From where I sit here in Madison, Wisconsin, I can see all the geese flying south in their arrow-shaped formations. There were so many this morning, that I couldn’t help but notice them all.

As I was watching, I saw one group flying north, the exact opposite direction. Made me wonder if one forgets something, do they all go back together for it? (Kind of a “leave no man behind”thing.)

It also made me think of one of the great Thomas Dolby songs, “Flying North.” This is from his recent podcast series that accompanied his tour a year or two ago…

This was a great tour because attendees were able to see exactly how these songs were built… the layers of sounds, harmonies and melodies that were incorporated into them. The video includes his live performance of “Flying North.”

Thomas Dolby, incidentally, looks just like one of our board members, too. Always distracting to talk to him, yet soothing because he’s got the British accent, and you know how we Americans are suckers for British accents).
