dr. dog? really?

Developer Jim just recommended to me the band Dr. Dog. While Jim insists that he is both a doctor AND a dog, I’ve found no evidence that supports either contention.

Jim’s other contention, though, seems to be absolutely true – this is a really solid band, and I can’t wait to hear more from them. The songwriting is really good, and they’ve someone been able to find their own sound in this era of a million bands all competing for the same ears.

There’s a really good chance you’ve heard this Philadelphia band, based on the number of prominent bands they’ve toured with. In two short years (neither of them leap years), they’ve opened for or played with The Raconteurs, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Strokes and The Black Keys.

Take a minute to check out this video for “My Old Ways.” A good song and an excellent video…

This video’s a bit freakier. The song’s called “The Ark.” Good song, odd video…

Dr. Dog is really great/refreshing. You really should listen to their c.d.s or, better yet, go and see them. live if you can. They are so much fun. Live. Check out their myspace site and you can hear or buy their c.d.s. Or, go to youtube. There are hundreds of better videos than these. They have been on TV many times, too, on Conan and Craig Ferguson, MTV, and Letterman. They have done some really good radio shows, lately on NPR and WXPN and KCRW. Just google them and you’ll find hundreds or more great ways to listen to them/view them. They just had a ten page spread in Relix mag. as the “Best New US band”… I still find it amazing that many haven’t heard of them yet, as they are all over the place. They are just really laid back guys and haven’t caved to all of the offers/media hype they have been offered in the past few years.
